Weddings

We are delighted to now offer Gilbert White’s House & Garden as a venue for your wedding celebrations. Our idyllic setting beneath the famous Selborne ’Hanger’ is steeped in history and has a charm and serenity quite of its own.

We do not have a Civil Marriage & Partnership Licence currently but we hope to obtain one early in 2012.

However we have several options available to you.

The Great Mead & The Ewell

These ancient meadows adjoin the garden and afford stunning views of the Haha and the House, as well as across the parkland and the ‘Hanger’. Both meadows give ample opportunities for siting a marquee. The Ewell has a direct entrance onto Gracious Street so is conveniently accessible for your guests to park.

  The Lawn & Gardens

Our beautiful gardens, restored by our Head Gardener and his team to Gilbert White’s original design and ideas, offer numerous stunning locations at which to take your wedding photographs.

The main Lawn is only available occasionally for erecting a marquee, but is available to host a champagne reception with small gazebo-type structures permitted. Non-amplified music only is permitted in this area such as a String Quartet.

The Gilbert White Field Studies Centre

Our beautiful 16th Century barn is located in a tranquil setting with adjoining ample car parking. It offers good toilet and cloakroom facilities. Large glass doors open onto ancient parkland with the backdrop of the famous Selborne beech ’Hanger’, and it therefore offers an ideal location to erect a marquee, either adjoining the barn, or close to it.
